Come Follow Me 51: The Family: A Proclamation to the World

Come Follow Me Lesson 51: The Family: A Proclamation to the World

(I read this on 26 December 2021; now I'm finished with 2021 course of study)

Are we standing firm in defense of the Proclamation? It is a test for our generation. (President Oaks)

Families are part of God’s grand plan and design. We lived in heaven with Him and our Heavenly Mother as our parents. We are born here on earth into families, and through the gift of Jesus Christ and the power of the atonement, we can be blessed in our families here on earth, receiving forgiveness, healing, direction and progression; and we can be blessed to continue our association with our earthly families throughout eternity, through the sealing power of the priesthood performed in holy temples.

The family is central to God’s plan. Marriage and family are essential to our eternal progression.

Never let a problem to be solved become more important that a person to be loved. (President Monson)

Don’t just think you love others, express it. Show your love. Make people more important than things or details in your day. Remember what it’s all about.

“No one is predestined to receive less than all that the Father has for His children” (Elder Christofferson).

“The key to anything is to keep an eternal perspective….there are more important things than just the here and now.”

This young man’s mother taught him so well. Though his mother and two of his sister’s were killed in the car accident (Christmas Eve), leaving his father, one sister, and him behind, he was happy. His mother had taught him the important truths. In the hospital, he looked at his dad, smiling, as one tear ran down his cheek. He said, “Dad it’s okay; we’re still a family.”

The Proclamation came out a year and a half after Robby’s birth and subsequent death, but we already knew the truths found therein. God blessed us with that eternal perspective and gave our family peace and joy. The hospital was sacred ground for us. Angel Robby and others were there. Our family is forever.
