Come Follow Me 39: Doctrine and Covenants 106-108

Come, Follow Me Lesson 39: Doctrine and Covenants 106-108 Introduction: How do we abide in the Savior? D&C 107 shows how to organize priesthood offices and quorums. But more than that, the Lord teaches us about the priesthood order, as it was instituted in the days of Adam and restored in our day. Through the priesthood, God gives all of His children the opportunity to receive the saving ordinances of the gospel and enjoy all the spiritual blessings of the church. We can have the privilege of receiving the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven and to have the heavens opened to us. D&C 107: Elder Neil L Anderson said, “The priesthood is the power and authority of God given for the salvation and blessing of all—men, women and children.” How have the ordinances of the priesthood enriched your life on earth, and how are they helping to prepare you for the magnificent promises of eternity? What things are you doing to help your more fully receive the promised blessings, and wha...

Come Follow Me 38: Doctrine and Covenants 98-101

Come, Follow Me Lesson 38: Doctrine and Covenants 102-105 Lesson Introduction: Pay attention to principles We definitely cannot see the end from the beginning. The saints were told in D&C 103:15 that the redemption of Zion must needs come by power. Those are interesting words. Zion’s Camp was disbanded and the Saints did not return to Missouri. But the experience deepened their faith in God’s power and in Joseph’s call, and in the principle of Zion meaning the people of God. How are we being redeemed by power? By the power of the atonement; our faith in Jesus and the atonement; the power of the priesthood. What part do we play in redeeming Zion, and what is necessary for us to do that? To Redeem Zion: 1. President Nelson has told us to learn to hear the Lord. 2. He has also told us to let God prevail in our lives. Zion will be redeemed as we learn to follow the Savior, even when we do NOT understand everything. “ Zion cannot be built up...

Come Follow Me 37: Doctrine and Covenants 98-101

Come, Follow Me Lesson 37: Doctrine and Covenants 98-101 Lesson Introduction: Are you acting on the spiritual promptings that you are receiving? Why does our Father give us spiritual impressions? Like our Israelite ancestors, the early saints prospered while working to build Zion and waiting upon the Lord. Persecution from their neighbors in Independence Missouri soon followed. Why did the people in Missouri fear the Latter-day Saints? Joseph was in Kirtland at the time. But the Lord revealed principles of peace and encouragement to help the saints then and to help us now. (97 and 98) D&C 98:3 How does this verse bring hope, peace, and comfort to you? Saints: Printing press and building destroyed, members tarred and feathered, etc. Phelps tried to see his trials in a positive light. “I know from the experience I have had,” he assured the Saints in Kirtland in a letter, “that it is a good thing to have our faith thoroughly tried.” Because of...

Come Follow Me 36: Doctrine and Covenants 94-97

Come, Follow Me Lesson 36: Doctrine and Covenants 94-97 Lesson Introduction: The temple is a good place for us to go to receive personal revelation. How can we place both our home and the temple at the center of our lives? Ancient prophets and Joseph Smith were commanded to build temples according to the pattern of the Lord, according to His directions. Why is it important to worship God and to build our lives according to His design for us? The Tabernacle in the wilderness, the temple in Kirtland, and the Salt Lake Temple were all meant to be in a central position for the people. Today, even if our temples are not central in our communities, we can make them central in our lives. Is this why temple are often built on higher ground? (Often temples are build on higher ground so that they are a prominent feature and a reminder to us.) What do we learn inside our temples? We learn a “divine pattern—a heavenly plan to bring us back into the presence of God. ...
