Come Follow Me 30: Doctrine and Covenants 81-13

Come, Follow Me Lesson 30: Doctrine and Covenants 81-83 Introduction: Look for sound principles that help you in all your relationships, particularly with your family and friends. Although D&C 81 was initially given as a revelation to help Brother Jesse Gause in his calling, because he didn’t serve faithfully, the revelation was now meant for Brother Frederick G. Williams. How are the revelations given for others during this time meant for us today? (see 1 Nephi 19:23) How important is it for us to liken the scriptures to ourselves as we read them? What does it mean to liken them to ourselves? (See D&C 82:5) D&C 81:5 What council is given here? We can think and pray about who we can help strengthen. How can we be bound to the Lord through our covenants with Him? D&C 82:10, 15 What are the Lord’s promises to us when we hearken to His words and keep His commandments? (The United Firm was later referred to as the United Order. Reading “Newel K. Whitney and ...

Come Follow Me 29: Doctrine and Covenants 77-80

Come, Follow Me Lesson 29: Doctrine and Covenants 77-80   Introduction: Are you paying attention to the words of wisdom that the Lord speaks to you (see 78:2)? Church leaders continue to meet together to discuss the needs of a growing church: publishing revelations, purchasing lands, using funds, means, and talents to care for the poor (see 78 heading). In that day, they organized a group called the United Firm, to advance the cause of the Lord (see vs.4). What different entities has the Church developed to advance the cause of the Lord in our day? As the Lord helps us to take care of the physical needs of each other and the Church, he is actually teaching us about spiritual things and preparing us to receive a place in the spiritual world. Can you explain how all things are Spiritual with God? Are you sometimes overwhelmed by all the things that you think you should be doing? Here’s the Lord’s reassurance, “Be of good cheer, and I will lead you along (vs. 18). D&C...

Come, Follow Me Lesson 28: Doctrine and Covenants 76   Have you ever had some knowledge or understanding that you were excited to share? Can we increase our chances of receiving revelation from the Lord? (Read scriptures with faith, see D&C 76: 10, 12, 19) In D&C 76 we receive a broader understanding of our Father’s love and how merciful He is, and about what happens to us after we die. Read Wilford Woodruff’s and Phebe Crosby Peck’s testimonies How does D&C 76 help to increase your love and admiration for the Savior? How can you more fully receive the testimony of Jesus Christ and be more valiant? How important is baptism to our salvation and progress? How is an understanding of the degrees of glory a witness to you of God’s love for His children? How important are our testimonies to our eternal destiny? Describe someone you think is valiant? What does it mean to be valiant in the testimony of Jesus Christ? Heavenly Father’s Plan is for our happiness and He d...

Come Follow Me: Doctrine and Covenants 67

Come, Follow Me Lesson 27: Doctrine and Covenants 71-75 Intro: Quote by Elder Quentin L Cook: “ The influence of the Holy Ghost most often accompanies individual scripture study and prayer in the home”. Have you faced critics and/or enemies because of your beliefs? Because Ezra Booth didn’t receive what he expected, he murmured, fell out of favor with the Lord, and apostatized. He set out to discredit the Lord’s prophet and His church, by supplying a series of letters to an Ohio newspaper. The heading to sec 71 tells us that this brought about “unfriendly feelings….against the Church.” What should we as believers do when something like this happens? What did the Lord tell His disciples to do in D&C 71:1? (Open your mouths and declare the gospel according to what the Spirit prompts you to teach.) The Lord will always have critics. How does the Lord defend us when we should to stand with Him? (see vs. 9-10) Why should we keep the Lord’s commandments? (See vs. 10) D...
