Come Follow Me 41: Doctrine and Covenants 111-114
Come, Follow Me Lesson 41: Doctrine and Covenants 111-114
Introduction:
How do you hold onto peace from the Savior in a world of commotion?
The Saints experienced a spiritual high with the dedication of the Kirtland Temple. Trials from without and within soon followed
How can we keep trials from breaking our peace, faith, and testimony?
How does preaching the gospel protect and strengthen you (See D&C 112:28)?
It’s important for us to sustain and support the prophet and our fellow saints and citizens (see 112:15). It’s important that I keep preparing and keep serving.
Instead of being overly concerned about discomfort from present trials, I should be looking forward in faith for the coming [next] blessings (112:13).
Personal 111:
How does debt weigh us down?
Why is it important to recognize all the other treasures the Lord has given us (see D&C 111:10)?
What is of most value to the Lord (vs 2)?
How does obedience and keeping the commandments turn us into a valuable treasure (see Exodus 19:5)?
When and how has the Lord helped you find unexpected treasure (vs 10)? He brought Bob and I together.
Read vs 11. How much does the Lord want to bless us!?! He’ll order everything good for us, if we are ready to receive it. It’s time to repent and become worthy of the blessing He keeps pouring out.
What treasures should we seek after (see Matt 6:19-21, 33)? Gaining the Spirit in our lives and gaining souls that come unto Christ through our service and teaching. Eternal treasures, eternal glory. (corruptible treasure, corruptible glory)
How can I form relationships with others in order to invite them to Come unto Christ and to further His work and glory?
Personal 112:
Be thou humble; the Lord will lead you by the hand and give you answers to your prayers (D&C 112:10 and Hymn 130). What does this mean to you? I’ll know what to do and how to act. I’ll have faith and confidence in His will, and He will give me peace.
What does it mean to be led by the hand? Parent/child relationship. Protection, leadership. When there is danger (crossing the street, or at a crossroad in our lives) the Lord offers us His hand and will walk us across; He won’t forsake us.
Why do we need to be humble to be led in this manner?
Family 112:
What qualities do humble people possess?
How should we care for others (D&C 112:11)?
An
effectual door will be opened, when (vs 19)? What does that mean to
you?
What important thing is very necessary for us to be successful in missionary work (vs 28, 33-34)?
Personal 113:
The coming forth of Joseph Smith as the prophet of this generation is a fulfillment of prophecy (see Isaiah 11:1,10 and D&C 113: 4,6; 2 Nephi 21:10-12; ).
Joseph Smith is of the tribes of both Ephraim and Judah. He comes through the same line as the Savior as Jesse’s seed.
Family 113:
How do our temple covenants and endowments help us in redeeming Israel and establishing Zion (see D&C 113:7-8)?
