Come, Follow Me Lesson 40: Doctrine and Covenants 109-110

Elder Bednar wants us to be familiar with the following scriptures, to ponder and study them, and to recognize how they impact you and your family:

D&C 109:24-28:

24 We ask thee, Holy Father, to establish the people that shall worship, and honorably hold a name and standing in this thy house, to all generations and for eternity;

25 That no weapon formed against them shall prosper; that he who diggeth a pit for them shall fall into the same himself;

26 That no combination of wickedness shall have power to rise up and prevail over thy people upon whom thy name shall be put in this house;

27 And if any people shall rise against this people, that thine anger be kindled against them;

28 And if they shall smite this people thou wilt smite them; thou wilt fight for thy people as thou didst in the day of battle, that they may be delivered from the hands of all their enemies.

Many saints and angels attended the dedication of the Kirtland Temple.

Why the great excitement on both sides of the veil?

These people were waiting and eager to receive the promised blessings (given to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob).

The era we now live in—with accelerated temple work and ordinances available to millions of the living and the dead—had its beginning in Kirtland, when “the veil o’er the earth [was] beginning to burst”

What can we learn from this dedicatory prayer in relationship to improving our own prayers? What do we learn about the importance of temples and the strength and power we can receive from temple worship and endowments?

Family Study:

How can I become an Exemplary Latter-day Saint?

“Find a way to make an appointment regularly with the Lord—to be in His holy house—then keep that appointment with exactness and joy” (President Nelson).

Read D&C 109:78-80 and sing “The Spirit of God.”

Doctrine and Covenants 110: Personal Study

As we prepare temples and prepare to go to the temple, and as we worship in temples, the Lord forgives us, accepts of our offerings, and as we repent and purify ourselves, He will have mercy on us and manifest Himself unto us (see vs. 1-10).

Do you recognize when He accepts your efforts and sacrifices?

Family:

How would you have felt if you’d been present with Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery? The Lord appeared, and Moses, Elias and Elijah. (See picture included in lesson.)]

How can we become a more vital part in turning the hearts of the fathers to the children and the children’s to their fathers (see vs 15)?
