Come Follow Me 37: Doctrine and Covenants 98-101
Come, Follow Me Lesson 37: Doctrine and Covenants 98-101
Lesson Introduction:
Are you acting on
the spiritual promptings that you are receiving?
Why does our
Father give us spiritual impressions?
Like our Israelite ancestors, the early saints prospered while working to build Zion and waiting upon the Lord. Persecution from their neighbors in Independence Missouri soon followed.
Why did the people in Missouri fear the Latter-day Saints?
Joseph was in Kirtland at the time. But the Lord revealed principles of peace and encouragement to help the saints then and to help us now. (97 and 98)
D&C 98:3 How does this verse bring hope, peace, and comfort to you?
Saints: Printing press and building destroyed, members tarred and feathered, etc.
Phelps tried to see his trials in a positive light. “I know from the experience I have had,” he assured the Saints in Kirtland in a letter, “that it is a good thing to have our faith thoroughly tried.”
Because of the saints love for the Lord and their belief in the revelations, they did all that they could to follow His council in these sections.
Phelps: Phelps wondered if “the servants of the Lord of the vineyard, who are called and chosen to prune it for the last time” would “fear to do as much for Jesus as he did for us”? “No,” he answered, “we will obey the voice of the Spirit, that good may overcome the world.”
Doctrine and Covenants 98:
Adversity is part of our mortal experience. (Sometimes it is self-induced or induced by others.)
How does this section help you understand the purpose of adversity in your life?
How have your own trials worked together for your good and become a blessing? How have they accomplished God’s purposes in your life?

John Murdock suffered much and still kept serving. His wife died in childbearing. His twin son Joseph died of exposure while being reared by Emma Smith. His daughter died of cholera. Those who were caring for his children charged money or abandoned their design to care for them. Poor man.
D&C 100
Can leaving home and family to serve the Lord cause uncertainty and unrest? What compensatory blessings have been yours as a result of serving in the Lord’s church and seeking to help establish Zion?
How does it make you feel knowing that the Lord is watching over your family? How has He blessed us when one of our members has been involved in missionary work?

am not going to reread this right now.
