Come, Follow Me Lesson 31: Doctrine and Covenants 84


How are you striving to live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God?


Do you differentiate between the word of God and the words of his prophet?


The priesthood was restored in 1829. What blessings and powers were restored with the priesthood?

Baptism, confirmation (receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost); being called, ordained and set apart to callings in the church; sealing powers in the Holy Temple.


How has the Doctrine and Covenants helped to increase your understanding of the priesthood, its purposes, and how it functions?



D&C 84:1-5


Why is the Church being established in our day? (vs. 2)


How will the New Jerusalem be built? (vs. 4) Is it being built currently?


How has the priesthood blessed your life?


How have you seen the power of godliness manifest in the ordinances of the Priesthood?


Personal 6-18: Why is it important that we can trace priesthood authority in the Church today back to the authority of Jesus Christ?

In verse 17, we learn that whenever the Church of Jesus Christ is on the earth, the priesthood is also here.


D&C 84:19-22: This divine power holds the key of the knowledge of God which makes manifest the power of godliness and prepares us to see the face of God and live.

When have you experiences the power of godliness being manifested through an ordinance such as baptism or the sacrament?


We saw the power of godliness being manifest to us and many others, in witnessing to the truth of the sealing power when Robby was born into our family.


How can you compare President Nelson to the Prophet Moses (see vs. 23)?


Are we preparing to enter into the rest of the Lord (vs vs. 24)?


How do both priesthoods bless our lives and help us prepare to meet our Savior and return to our Heavenly Father?

How are you receiving the Lord and His servants?


What are the promises that are associated with the oath and covenant of the Priesthood?

How important is it to give diligent heed to a recipe? What happens if you get the ingredients wrong? Why is it important for us to follow the recipe the Lord has given us?

How have you invited the light and Spirit of Christ into your life through studying the words of eternal life?


After reading verses 55-57 and 61-62 what can you personally do to ensure that you are not under condemnation and that your works are acceptable before God?

Have you felt the Lord with you in your service?


What are the Lord’s promise to us as we seek to share the gospel and build the kingdom? (vs. 80, 88)

In verse 97, we learn that the plagues won’t stop until the Lord completes His work.


Though the plagues may not come from the Lord, how can they be part of His work of gathering? How will repenting and serving help us get through these times?


Are we choosing to know the Lord by seeking Him, or will the plagues have to humble us first? How can we help to build Zion and become part of this song?

How are all edified together through the gifts and efforts of individual members, whether in a family, a workplace, or a congregation? (vs. 110; also 106-109)

vs. 112 Are we sufficiently humble, so that we desire to help the poor?

Come, Follow Me Lesson 5: Doctrine and Covenants 6-9   I am impressed with Oliver Cowdery’s thirst for truth, not just for secular knowledge. That’s an admirable trait to have. Do I want to know the truth, or do I just want others to follow my train of thought? Do I want to share truth? Why does sharing truth have to be done by invitation, and not by force? When Oliver asked the Smith family concerning their son Joseph, the plates, and the heavenly visitations, this was something he wanted to believe.
