Come Follow Me: Doctrine and Covenants 67

Come, Follow Me Lesson 27: Doctrine and Covenants 71-75

Intro: Quote by Elder Quentin L Cook: “The influence of the Holy Ghost most often accompanies individual scripture study and prayer in the home”.

Have you faced critics and/or enemies because of your beliefs?

Because Ezra Booth didn’t receive what he expected, he murmured, fell out of favor with the Lord, and apostatized. He set out to discredit the Lord’s prophet and His church, by supplying a series of letters to an Ohio newspaper.

The heading to sec 71 tells us that this brought about “unfriendly feelings….against the Church.”

What should we as believers do when something like this happens?

What did the Lord tell His disciples to do in D&C 71:1? (Open your mouths and declare the gospel according to what the Spirit prompts you to teach.)

The Lord will always have critics. How does the Lord defend us when we should to stand with Him?

(see vs. 9-10)

Why should we keep the Lord’s commandments? (See vs. 10)

D&C 71 Personal

Why does the Lord usually choose not to confound His critics immediately?

Can you see how the Lord wants us to develop faith in the midst of opposition?

What can you do personally to build your faith in the Lord and in His work? What instruction do you find helpful in D&C 71?

D&C 71 Family

How can we help “prepare the way” for people to receive God’s revelations? (see vs. 4)

Are we preparing the way for the commandments and revelations which are to come?

The Lord tells us that it is wisdom for us to share the gospel, and that as we do, we will receive more abundantly, even power. (See vs. 5-6)

How should we confound our enemies? (See vs. 7)

D&C 72 Personal

A bishop is a man who has been ordained and set apart as the presiding high priest for a ward, or congregation. He has overall responsibility for ministering the temporal and spiritual affairs of the congregation.”

What does the Lord require of everyone to whom He gives a trust? (See vs.3-4)

How do these verses help you want to do better in your callings and assignments?

How doe we “render an account” of our stewardship to our Bishops? (See vs. 5) Ward councils.

How dos the Bishop “keep the Lord’s storehouse” and manage what the ward members consecrate to the Lord? (see vs. 10, 12)

How has it been a blessing to you to have a Bishop?

Is it still necessary for members of the church to aid in publication and distribution of revelations to be sent forth? (See vs. 21)

What does vs. 7 teach us about Jesus and little children?

D&C 75 personal

We have the same commission as the ancient disciples did after the Lord’s resurrection, to preach the gospel to all the world. (See D&C 68:8)

How can we teach the gospel for effectively? (See D&C 75:1-12)

Call on the name of the Lord. Ask to have Holy Ghost with you. Pray always, asking for strength. Don’t murmur.

What blessings are promised to faithful missionaries? Eternal life. (see vs. 5, 16)

What is the difference between being idle and laboring with your might? What type of effort does the Lord what us to put into the work that we do?

How can you serve the Lord with all your might? What does the Lord promise His faithful servants? (See D&C 75:3-5, 13, 16)
