Come Follow Me 22: Doctrine and Covenants 58-59
Come, Follow Me Lesson 22: Doctrine and Covenants 58-59
How can the scriptures help us resole all of our personal concerns?
President Oaks taught, “The scriptures will help us resolve all of our personal questions because by reading them we invite and qualify ourselves for the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, which will guide us into all truth”. (intro)
Where does the Lord want us to build Zion?
Where we are; in our hearts; in our homes; in our relationships; in our congregations; in our communities.
the Lord isn’t asking us just to come to Zion; He wants us to build it.
Do you sometimes
find that your expectations do NOT match your realities?
We
cannot always change our present realities or the situations we are
in. But what can we change?
Are we like the early saints who are disappointed, because we expect to see all the blessings now, instead of trusting in the Lord and waiting on Him and His timing?
How does D&C 58:3 give you added hope and courage to accept the Lord’s will and timing?
If we cannot change our present situations to our ideals currently what can we do? What can we change? What should we concentrate on?
Even though we cannot control everything, we can be an influence for good in our own spheres, affecting our own lives and attitudes and those of others.
We don’t have to wait for everything to be perfect in order to do good things. Jesus has given us power to change our own lives and to influence others for good. See D&58:27-28.
In D&C 105:9 The Lord told the people that they would have to wait for a little season.
How
do you respond when the Lord’s answer to you is you have to wait?
Why is it worthwhile to wait on the Lord?
Read D&C 58: 26-33. What role does being anxiously engaged in good caused play in fulfilling God’s promises?
In vs 29, what does
it mean to be damned?
Our
progression is stopped. When we lose faith to act, we lose ability to
move forward.
What are some good causes to choose? How has being anxiously engaged in a good cause helped your life? Has it given you direction? Has it given you purpose?
Do I keep the Sabbath with thanksgiving?
How is it a blessing to be given many commandments?
How does honoring the Sabbath bless us all through the week?
Questions to ask yourself:
Am I using the Sabbath day the way the Lord intended? How does keeping the Sabbath day holy help me remain “unspotted from the world”? (verse 9). What can I do to pay my “devotions unto the Most High”? (verse 10).
Sabbath
blessed as a day of rest. Gen 2:2-3
We are commanded to rest
from our labors as the Lord did. Ex 20:8-11
Sign of covenant people. Ex 31: 13,16
We
should allow others to rest on their sabbath. Deut 5:12-15
We
are truly blessed when we put the Lord first Isa 58:13-14
The
Sabbath is for our benefit. Mark 2: 27
Because Jesus was
resurrected on the first day, it became the Sabbath. John 20:1-19;
Acts 20:7.
Am I working sufficiently on the six days, so that I desire to rest on the 7th?
What blessings have you received by obeying the commandments? (See D& 59:3-19)
Do you confess the hand of the Lord in everything? (See D& 59 :18-21)
