 Come, Follow Me Lesson 13: Doctrine and Covenants 29

Just like members of the Church today, early saints were curious about different prophecies and promises found in the Book of Mormon. They wanted to understand more about the Gathering of Israel, the Fall of Adam and Eve, and spiritual death. The Lord welcomes our honest questions.

In D&C 29:6 He tells us, “Whatsoever ye shall ask in faith, being united in prayer according to my command, ye shall receive.”

When we learn to practice faith in the Lord and direct our questions to Him in prayer, we will find that often He blesses us with more understanding than we even initially were asking for.

How does being united in prayer bless us?

A Breakdown of verses and questions:

  1. In vs. 1-8: Look for insights into why we gather, who will gather and how we can help gather the elect.
    Vs. 1: What does it mean to you that His arm of mercy atoned?
    He can reach everyone. He arm is stretched out still.

  2. What does the image of a hen gathering her chickens under her wings teach you about the Savior’s desire to gather you?
    He can cover us all.
    Jesus is offering us peace, safety, and security. If we listen to Him, He’ll protect and deliver us and take us safely home.
    What must we personally do to be gathered by the Lord?
    We must be humble and prayerful.

  3. How do hearing God’s word and repentance work hand in hand?
    As we receive God’s word, we are forgiven. As we repent we receive more of God’s word.
    DO IT, or there will be worse perils than Covid.

  4. What are we chosen to do?
    We are chosen to declare His word with rejoicing and with a true and clear sound. We need to be firm and steadfast and immovable.
    Why is it important that we share our testimonies with rejoicing?

  5. We should be a happy people.
    Read why in verse 5.
    Vs. 3-5 He is here with us, in our midst. He is our Advocate with the Father.
    Heavenly Father wants to give us the Kingdom.

  6. How can we be united in prayer, even when we are physically apart for one another?
    How do collective prayers bless us?

  7. How do we gather the elect?
    Vs. 7-9 What does it mean to be gathered by the Savior? How can we help Him gather the elect?
    Invite others to Come to Christ.

  8. How are we currently being gathered into one place?
    Gathering to Zion means uniting to Stakes of Zion around the world.
    How does gathering as Saints help us prepare in all things for the tribulations that will come before the Savior’s Second Coming?
    How does conference help us to be prepared?

  9. Jesus is coming back. Vs. 9-12

  10. Discussion: Do you want to be here with Jesus?

  11. D: Yes, I do.

  12. D: What is needful?

  13. D: The righteous dead will be resurrected at the beginning of the millennium.

  14. Tribulations of the last days. Vs. 14-25.

  15. D: Bill Gates thinks he can control the sun.

  16. D: How can we actually help turn the tide of ill effects happening in our world?

  17. Vs. 17: How do we have to do to be cleansed by Jesus?

  18. D: How is the world missing the mark?
    D: Are we missing the mark?

  19. D: What can we personally do in these last days to make the world a better place?

  20. D: How can we help others to develop faith in Jesus Christ?

  21. Vs. 21: The Great and Abominable Church will be destroyed.
    What is it?
    Anyone or movement with the spirit of Anti-Christ. It is those who set themselves up to be a light to the world, but they do not seek to bring forth Zion.

  22. D:After the millennium, the heavens and the earth will pass away,

  23. D: And there will be a new heaven and a new earth.

  26. Michael, Adam, the Archangel is the one who will sound his trump to wake the dead.
    How do you feel about our first father being the one to sound the trump to initiate the resurrection?

  27. The righteous will be with Jesus.
    That is something that we all look forward to. Are we waiting for the next life?
    We are promised that if we always remember Him that we will always have His Spirit to be with us. We are also told that when two of three of us are gathered together in His name that He will be there with us.

  28. Vs. 28-30: The Final Judgment is final.

  29. Vs. 34-35: How are all commandments spiritual?
    Romans 8:6: SMILE

  30. Vs. 36-50 Jesus Christ Redeems us from the Fall. Our need for a Redeemer.
    1 Cor 15:22 Because of Adam’s Fall we all will die; because of Christ’s Atonement, we all will be resurrected.
    2 Nephi 2:6–8, 15–29 Plan of Salvation; also Mosiah 3:10=-19; Moses 5:9-12
    Moses 6:62–63: All things testify of Christ.

Come, Follow Me Lesson 5: Doctrine and Covenants 6-9   I am impressed with Oliver Cowdery’s thirst for truth, not just for secular knowledge. That’s an admirable trait to have. Do I want to know the truth, or do I just want others to follow my train of thought? Do I want to share truth? Why does sharing truth have to be done by invitation, and not by force?
